Habitat house starting to take shape
The Community Journal
Feburary 16, 2007 - The Habitat for Humanity local project committee in Townsend is working to finish raising the money for the first Habitat home to be built in town. The house, which will be owned by a Townsend family, will be located on Apple Drive.
The committee has been working for the past two years to raise just over $45,000 to buy building material. A plan for the house has been completed.
The committee's goal is to break ground this spring. It costs approximately $120,000 to build a Habitat home. Over the next several months the local committee will be hosting events for the fundraising campaign.
They have scheduled five events, including a turkey dinner at the Townsend Congregational church on Saturday, March 10, and a Taste of Nashoba event at Lawerence Academy in Groton on Tuesday, March 27. Habitat will receive $5 from each ticket sold by a committee member for the Taste of Nashoba.
The committee has also scheduled a Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament at the Townsend Ridge Country Club for Friday, April 13. There will be a Habitat Hike for Humanity held at Mt. Monadnock State Park on both Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20, with the proceeds to benefit the Townsend project.
The final event scheduled is the Habitat for Humanity Townsend Project first annual golf tournament at the Townsend Ridge Country Club on Saturday, June 2.
More information will be available as these events unfold. To learn more about the fundraising events or to make a donation, please visit the Web site www.ncmhabitat. org or call (978) 597-5527. Donations can be mailed to: P.O. Box 90, Townsend, MA 01469.
