Another Habitat for Humanity Home in Fitchburg
Fitchburg, MA --- April 11, 2006. Habitat for Humanity North Central Massachusetts will celebrate the completion of its third home in Fitchburg on Saturday, April 22, 2006. All are invited to join Habitat and the Carroll family for a dedication ceremony at the home on 83 Walnut Street, Fitchburg at 11:00 AM.
Amica Sponsors House
The two-story, 1200 square foot home was sponsored by The Amica Companies Foundation, the charitable arm of Amica Insurance, which donated half the cost to build the home. In addition to their donation, Amica employees helped construct the home. Habitat board member Mike Jeans observes, "Amica and its employees have a strong culture of civic responsibility and community involvement.
In addition to being a home and auto insurer with a commitment to customer satisfaction, Amica is also a terrific corporate citizen. We really appreciate what they have done to help Habitat for Humanity and this deserving family."
To generate additional funds, Amica's Corporate, Southeastern Massachusetts, Concord, and Boston offices held nail-pounding contests and stud signings, raising $810.00 in the form of a Home Depot gift certificate to give the family a head start in equipping their home.
"Amica Insurance has donated to several Habitat for Humanity homes because we understand the value of families and communities," notes Bob DiMuccio, Amica's President and CEO. "A home is defined as a place where one lives. However, these Habitat homes are so much more than that. They're a place where a family moving into the home can feel like part of a community of friends and volunteers. Amica is a proud supporter of Habitat for Humanity and we're especially pleased to assist in building a home in Fitchburg."
Community Partners
Volunteers joined the homeowners to build the home, donating hundreds of hours of labor. In addition to individual volunteers, groups from Amica, St. Bernard's High School, Fitchburg High School, Wellesley College, Suffolk University, Bentley College, Nashoba Regional High School, Hudson High School, Mt. Wachusett Community College, Junior ROTC of Montachusett Technical High School, First Baptist Church of Fitchburg, Grace Chapel-Lexington, South Acton Congregational Church, Church of the Good Shepherd in Acton, St. Matthew's Methodist Church, Acton, New Directions, MathWorks and Sigma Tau Gamma volunteered to help build the home.
Students from Montachusetts Technical High School built the kitchen cabinets and installed the entire electrical, plumbing and heating systems under the supervision of their shop instructors. As part of Habitat's nationwide Prison Partnership, men from New England Correctional Center, Concord provided additional weekday labor. Programs like these provide needed skills to build a Habitat house while equipping the volunteers with marketable skills.
