CALLING ALL WOMEN!
Habitat for Humanity asking locals to participate in local project
May 1, 2009 Join members of Habitat for Humanity North Central Massachusetts on Saturday, May 9 in an all-woman volunteer day.
Construction crews of women volunteers will be pounding nails and raising walls at Habitat construction sites across the country in recognition of National Women Build Week May 2-10. Developed through the partnership between Lowe's and Habitat for Humanity International, National Women Build Week challenges women to devote at least one day to the effort to eliminate poverty housing.
The event is underwritten by Lowe's, to bring women from all walks of life together to learn construction skills. Lowe's is committing $1 million to National Women Build Week, and local Lowe's is providing $5,000 grants and event support materials to 175 affiliates. This is the first major initiative of Lowe's $20 million pledge to Habitat.
Locally, volunteers will help a single mom make her Westminster home wheelchair accessible for her 12-year-old daughter. The volunteer day will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 24 West Main St. To register, call (978) 348-2749 or visit www.ncmhabitat.org.
